At The Little House, we get the child to place their hand on the shoulder or hip of the person they wish to speak to. This is the polite way to interrupt someone while they are in the midst of something.
When the person feels someone's hand on their shoulder or hip, he or she should place their hand on the child's hand to acknowledge the child's presence. This will be the signal to the child that you know that they are waiting for you.
The child will then have to wait till the person has a break in their conversation before getting their turn to speak.
When the person is ready, he or she should thank the child for waiting patiently and then proceed to speak to the child.
