The children learnt about the rickshaw, a form of transport used in Singapore in the past.
Mrs Jo shared more about the life of a rickshaw puller and also how this transport was used in all weathers.
Mrs Jo introduced the different artefacts in the trunk.
They got to try on a hat that rickshaw pullers used to shelter themselves from the sun and the rain.
They learnt more about different fruits like the starfruits and mangosteens.
They also saw a wax paper umbrella, something that is rarely seen now in Singapore.
Next they discovered more on night soil collection. The children saw pictures of how houses were built in the past and also discussed the sanitation in such housing.
This tub was used to collect the night soil.
Mrs Jo walked them through a replica of a marketplace selling different types of baskets.
She explained the different uses of each basket.
The children got to know more about the toys that children used to play with from 1955 to 1965.
We did a vote and the toy that they found was the most interesting was the wind up toy.
They also saw a rocking horse that was used in the past. They discussed how it looks different from the one we have at school and how this particular rocking horse seemed more suitable for children of a younger age as it was smaller and it had a frame to support the child sitting on it.
